Specialty axes are those that while perfectly usable for general purpose duties (collecting and processing wood) were also designed for a specific use or range of uses as well. Specialty axes also include selections of Gransfors’ ancient axe line - historically accurate (in terms of head geometry, size, and weight) axes made by a single smith on a single hammer press, and all shaping and drawing out done manually - just like when they were originally being produced.

Gransfors Bruks Outdoor AxeThe Outdoor Axe is a small, lightweight hatchet sized axe designed to have numerous uses: limbing trees, chopping and splitting firewood, and also as a heavy knife for woodcarving or simply cutting food. Despite its small stature, the Outdoor Axe can even be used for felling trees when kneeling, thanks to its relatively long handle and heavy head.

Each axe head comes individually stamped with the smith's initials, while the hickory handle is boiled in linseed oil and rolled in bees wax for a smooth water repellant finish. The Double Bit Felling Axe has a 35" handle with swelled knob and excels as a working axe for felling & trimming. It comes with a 3 lb head and a 6" face. A beautifully balanced working tool as all Gransfors axes are.
Large Carving Axe - Double EdgedThe Gransfors Large Carving axe is designed for woodworking with a large swept blade that is double-ground for both left and right handed use. It features a 2.2 lb head, and a 14.5" handle that is purposely uneven to allow for superior grip and control.
