Trangia Stoves And Cooksets - An Overview
Trangia began in Trångsviken, Northern Sweden in 1925 making household pots for local farmers and workers. In time, as the need and market for portable outdoor camping equipment grew, Trangia developed their first complete outdoor cooking system in 1951 - which had features recognizable and in use by Trangia users today: a liquid fuel burner, a windscreen and a nesting pot design. Trangia's popularity grew as time went on, and to this day they are well loved the world over for their simplicity, reliability, ease of use, and ingeniously compact design.
Trangia Cookset Materials

Trangia's cookset pots and pans, windscreens, kettles and pot grips are made from Trangia's UL (ultralight) aluminum alloy, that is as light as titanium, and 18% stronger than their previous aluminum material. Aluminum spreads heat evenly, is highly sustainable, as it can be recycled indefinitely without losing quality, and contrary to erroneous reports, is not associated with increased risks for dementia.
UL frypans and pots are also available with a non-stick coating that is free from harmful PFAS substances such as PFOA and complies with the requirements of the EU’s chemical directive REACH. This coating prevents food from sticking with little or no cooking oil, and makes them easy to clean, although increased care should be taken when using over fires, and only wooden or plastic implements ought to be used in their operation.
Trangia's HA pots and pans start life as UL material, but are then anodized (an electrochemical process that converts a metal surface into a permanent oxide that is durable, corrosion-resistant, and aesthetically pleasing) which imparts added durability, protection against wear and corrosion, and a slicker cooking surface.
Trangia's Duossal material is a laminate of UL aluminum on the exterior, and a 0.3 mm stainless steel interior, making them very durable, rugged, scratch-resistant and easy to clean, although heavier than their UL counterparts.
Trangia Numbering System

Trangia's first cooksets were the venerable 25 series: made for 2 - 4 people, with 1L and 1.5L pots. After several years of producing this set, a new, smaller version suitable for the lone hiker or camping duo was introduced, and as other products had been developed with sequentially higher product numbers in the interim, these new, smaller sets were dubbed the 27 series.
Both 25 and 27 series cooksets come in differing configurations, denoted by the second digit in it's product name i.e. 25-1, 25-2, 25-3, etc.
All even numbered sets include a kettle (e.g. 25-2, 27-4) while odd numbered sets do not (e.g 27-1, 25-3). This is the only difference between sets on the same row in the chart on the left.
Sets 1&2 are entirely UL, 3&4 are UL or HA with non-stick frypans, 5&6 sport UL or HA windscreens with non-stick pots and frypans, 7&8 and 9&0 are UL windscreens with HA pots and either an HA or non-stick frypan, and 21UL/D is a UL windscreen with duossal pots and pans, while 23UL/D is identical save for a non-stick frypan.
All even numbered 25 series sets include a 0.9L kettle. For those wishing for a kettle with greater capacity, Trangia also offers a 1.4L kettle as a separate option - so ordering a 25 series set without a kettle (product numbers ending in odd numbers) allows one to add the higher capacity kettle that also nests in the set as an accessory.
Trangia Cookset Burners

Trangia's cooksets and system is best known for it's use with fuel alcohol (a more detailed video on fuel choices in Canada is here). Trangia's solid brass spirit burner is bomb proof, and due to the simplicity of it's design, always works - there are no needles, or jets to clog or clean - just pour in fuel, light and away you go. When paired with the correct fuel, the burner produces no soot or ash, and is completely silent in operation. Spirit burners in cooksets work well in all weather - including winter. In extremely bitter cold weather, the use of the Trangia optional pre-heater can be employed to ensure hot chocolate for all even when temperatures plunge.
Trangia also offers isobutane (gas) burners as option for their cooksets and stoves. Offering faster cook times than it's spirit burner counterpart, it is interoperable with threaded Lindal valve type isobutane canisters, such as those by Optimus, Primus, MSR, Jetboil, etc..and provides quick preparation of hot drinks and meals in warmer weather.
The Trangia Ecosystem
Trangia has a full line of accessories to further the function and capacity of their cooksets - including larger billy pots (4.5 and 2.5L), which also nest with the cooksets, adding slightly more weight but hardly any volume, multi-discs to aid with draining water from pots, and acting as cutting boards, and a host of other additions that help to make Trangia's lineup highly flexible, and work extremely well with a variety of party sizes, cooking styles and outdoor settings that best fit your needs. Add to that a long history of stable products lineups and ample supply of spare and replacement parts, and it becomes clear why Trangia touts their kits as being able to "last a lifetime....or three".
