Helle Dyre Vaa 2026 Limited Edition Knife

The King's knife is back! The Helle Dyre Vaa was first launched in 1978 and quickly became an 80's classic. Its fame grew after the knife was used by then Norwegian king Olav to cut the ribbon on the first winter road across the Strynefjellet region of Norway - which led to it becoming known as "The King's Knife".

On the 28th of May, 2026 current Norwegian King Harald the 5th V visited the Askvoll municipality (where Helle is located), and in honour of this visit, Helle has made 500 new Dyre Vaa knives in various iterations. The King received the first of these knives - the rest are available for sale.

The Dyre Vaa is striking with a particular shape. The blade, made from polished H3LS (triple laminate stainless steel) with a Scandi grind, has a long, trailing point shape that gives it a striking look and made it a favourite among hunters. The handle is often referred to as "military grade" in that it has powerful front and end pieces made out of solid brass. Between the brass pieces of leather protect a handle made out of oiled and light or dark coloured curly birch, or kebony (stabilized birch). The Dyre Vaa comes with a hand made classic sheath from ox leather that follows the curved shape of the blade.
