Broad Axes are used to square logs and planks in timber framing applications. The Gransfors Bruk Broad Axe - Model 1900 is a traditionally styled broad axe that has a flat edge on one side of the blade (used for planing), and a ground, bevelled side on the other used for hewing. The handle is designed for predominantly either right, or left handed use, being angled to the left or right, and the blade is angled as well so as to keep hands at a distance from the timber - thus minimizing the risk of injury.
