Visk Canoe Pitch

Visk Canoe Pitch takes it's inspiration from the First Nations and Voyageur travellers who traversed Canada’s waterways, relying on the water-tight properties of their canoes to get them to and from their destinations. Birchbark hulls were sealed and repaired with heated pine pitch, often strengthened with woodash and worked into seams along trails and portages. Travellers carried pitch for quick repairs, mending cracks and sealing leaks far from settlements or civilization.

Visk Canoe Pitch follows that same practice with a simple blend of pine resin, beeswax, and wood ash, prepared to be forgotten in a pack until needed, it can be relied on in emergency situations to return you to the water and get you home safely.

To use, warm the tin near a heat source until the pitch softens, then press it directly into cracks or seams using a flat tool. Smooth it into place and allow it to cool fully before testing. For larger damage, reinforce the repair with a piece of cotton or canvas, working the pitch through the fabric to create a strong, sealed patch. Applied in thin layers, Visk's Canoe Pitch forms a durable, water-resistant bond.
