Wetterlings has had a long and storied history manufacturing axes since it's beginning in 1880. Beginning in April, 2017, a new chapter begins, as Wetterlings will cease production of it's own branded axes, and will instead become part of the production facilities for it's sister company: Gransfors Bruk.
Wetterlings as a company will remain to bear responsibility for the axes it has produced, and to handle any warranty claims that arise from Wetterlings branded axes.
Wetterlings axe forge was for the last few years of it's production, run by Gabriel Brånby, (who, from 1985 to 2009, owned and managed Gränsfors Bruks AB, now run by his two sons.)
Brånby’s love and interest in the art of forging, axe manufacture, and of keeping these skills alive informs both his and Wetterling’s mandate: “You can not really own an antique axe forge – it belongs to our joint industrial history – but one can assume a responsibility. A responsibility to nurture and pass the knowledge previous generations have created, and that hopefully will outlive it’s keeper, on to the future.” What unites the company’s employees is an interest in axe manufacturing and axe culture.
